How Miami-Dade Public Schools uses bulb Digital Portfolios to enhance Career & Technical Education initiatives
At Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Executive Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), Dr. Diaz, has been hard at work with her team developing a Work-Based Learning (WBL) initiative for their CTE Miami and National Academy Foundation (NAF) students. Students document their WBL experiences in their bulb digital portfolios using templates developed in collaboration with bulb through these initiatives.
Focusing on active, first-hand, and in-depth student experiences with real workplace situations, Miami-Dade students are able to develop transferable skills, create networks, and establish relationships with industry professionals to whom they otherwise may not have access. These experiences reinforce students’ academic, professional, and social capabilities, making them uniquely prepared for life outside of the classroom.
By documenting and reflecting these experiences in bulb, students are able to reflect on and deepen their work-based learning. These opportunities also give students authentic content to build and enhance their bulb resumes. It's just as we say at bulb: Your resume tells a story, your portfolio proves it.
What's next for Miami-Dade?
With continuing support from bulb’s Customer Success Manager, Brian Timm, Miami-Dade Public Schools is facilitating virtual workshops for program leaders and teachers this spring to further support their CTE initiatives.
Moving forward, students will use the Work-Based Learning Annual Plan template to map out their experiences for each year. Students will then use a variety of WBL templates to document and reflect on their new experiences.
Best of all, when Dr. Diaz chats with Miami-Dade’s CTE students and asks how their WBL experiences have been, they’ll say “let me show you”, and open their bulb portfolios.
See their work for yourself!
