Austin, TX (April 5, 2019) – For students, standing out and being recognized is important. Alexa B., junior at Lanier High School in Austin, TX, was one of five students who used her bulb digital portfolio to secure free admittance to SXSW in March.
While at SXSW, she networked with like-minded and seasoned veterans in the field of creative technology and shared her portfolio with professionals to gather feedback.Alexa uses bulb to publish her photos and the backstories about her shots. She’s working on enhancing the experience by adding a soundtrack to be played as her audience views the photography.
“I really enjoy being able to show my work to people—this is my favorite part about a portfolio,” Alexa. “I usually keep my photography to myself and classmates, but now I tell all kinds of people I meet to go look at my portfolio. Knowing someone will look at it makes me really ask myself: why did I take this photo? What do I want people to feel when they look at this? I have to think critically about what I’m doing and that makes my work better.”
You can view Alexa’s portfolio on bulb here: https://bulbapp.com/alexablancoo. This isn’t the first time Alexa has been recognized for her portfolio work. Using bulb, Alexa submitted her photography portfolio to E4 Youth’s annual award show, a creative mentorship program for underserved youth in the Austin area. Of the many student submissions, her portfolio was selected as a winner and she won a scholarship based on her work.
“My portfolio represents who I am. It doesn’t look like anyone else’s,” she said. “I’m able to express myself freely, in a non-complicated way. I think this will make my portfolio stand out, no matter what I choose to do in the future.”
